Allergen ingredient checker
Paste any ingredient list and the checker highlights names that come from the 9 major US allergens: milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame, including less obvious ones like whey, albumin, semolina and tahini. It reports "may contain" warnings separately. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.
This is an information tool, not medical advice. It finds names it knows; it can't tell you a product is safe.

Frequently asked questions
Is anything I paste sent anywhere?
No. The checker runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is stored or sent.
Does "no allergens found" mean a product is safe?
No. The checker only looks for names it knows, and an ingredient list can be incomplete or out of date. Read the full label, including the Contains statement, and contact the manufacturer if you're unsure.
Where does the list of names come from?
From the allergen dictionary in the SafeScan app, limited here to names that clearly come from one of the 9 major US allergens. The app itself matches more than 1,000 names and also covers extended allergens and diets.
Why are mollusks like squid and clams not flagged?
Under US law only crustacean shellfish, such as crab, lobster and shrimp, are a major food allergen. The SafeScan app lets you add mollusks as an extended allergen.
